Fraud-Fighter Crooks Joins Global Analytics

Global Analytics has today announced that Ted Crooks—former Vice President, Global Fraud Solutions for Fair Isaac Corporation—has joined Global Analytics to seek and develop new applications for Global's mathematical and software capabilities.

By joining Global, Crooks rejoins  colleagues formerly with HNC Software, which was acquired by Fair Isaac in 2003 to become its fraud organization. Global Analytics founder, Krishna Gopinathan was the primary inventor of HNC's neural-network Falcon Fraud Manager® (now a Fair Isaac product) used to protect most credit cards worldwide. Steve Biafore, a Falcon co-inventor and founder of Fair Isaac's health insurance fraud-protection business, previously joined Global to head its analytics function.

Asked why the change, Crooks responded “I joined Global to focus on what I do best: invent and propagate new mathematical applications. With its substantial analytical staff, entrepreneurial orientation and self-funding, Global is ideally positioned to help me do my best work and you can't ask for more than that.”

With a three-year history and a staff over 100, nearly all of them technical, Global specializes in inventing new mathematical applications for business and organizations. Its projects have had more in common technically than by subject area, spanning human resources management, specialized business lending, automated decisions by Internet sites, high-risk lending and predicting charitable propensities. Often a behind-the-scenes technology provider for better-known joint venture partners, Global uses diverse business models suited to the technical and economic needs of specific solutions.

Well-known for his work inventing and leading development of fraud solutions, Crooks added “I'll continue to work on new fraud challenges, but I hope to also spend considerable effort on improving entrepreneurial credit systems in developing economies and credit expansion to the under-served here at home. Each of us at Global has our own areas of special interest and the freedom to pursue them. It all comes down to finding and solving interesting and worthwhile problems—the kind of work all of us enjoy most.”

Global CEO, Gopinathan added “Global is all about solving the next generation of problems and Ted's unique mix of experience, invention and clear communication fits our direction perfectly. We've worked together on many projects before and are happy to be at it again in a very favorable environment.”

Already on the job, Crooks remarked “I spend most of my time looking for the right problems to solve because good problems beget valuable solutions. Global knows how to craft the solutions, now I have to track down more of those good problems."
